Parliament has backed TERREWODE in seeking Government support to aid the operations of the new specialised fistula hospital in Arapai sub county, Soroti district.

This followed an appeal by TERREWODE executive director, Alice Emasu Seruyange, seeking government intervention to help in offsetting the hefty periodic electricity and water bills specialised fistula hospital during the commissioning on August 16, 2019.

“We are an NGO passionate and committed to render free quality to women and girls with fistula and childbirth related complications. But we incur over sh4m monthly in water and electricity bill. We request for Government intervention,” Emasu appealed.

Usuk county MP, Peter Ogwang, who’s also the chair of the parliamentary health committee, moved a motion that Government takes up payment of the utility bills for the hospital bills and was seconded by legislators.

The speaker of parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, directed Ogwang to write a letter and forward to her officer for further redress. On August 27, 2019, Hon. James Waluswaka, the Bunyole county MP tabled the issue on the floor of parliament and debated and endorsed.
